Godzilla made his debut in 1954 a Japanese film Gojira. Gojira, the monsters name in Japanese is gorilla and kujira, a word for whale. Godzilla was for the english speaking audiences. He was a rampaging 400 foot tall prehistoric monster brought back to life by a atomic bomb testing. In his first movie, Godzilla showed his radioactive breath.
From the 1950s to the 1970s, Toho produced a total of 15 Godzilla movies, in which the monster battled Mothra (a giant moth), Ghidrah (3 headed dragon), Rodan (a giant pterodactyl), Hedora (a smog creature), and others.
By the mid 70's Godzilla became so nice that he was almost cuddly. He could be seen dancing little jigs, and having friendly conversations with other monsters and playing daddy to his son. Godzilla was given a new puppy like face.
During 1975 Godzilla movies were no longer popular so he took a 10 year vacation.
By 1985 Godzilla was bad to the bone again with special effects and a mean face.
